2010 Western Specialty

The 2010 Western Regional Specialty ("the Western") will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010, in conjunction with the Hound Classic Weekend shows on Saturday & Sunday, April 17 & 18, 2010, in Siverado (Orange County), CA.   

  •  The Hound Classic is an all-hound show weekend which was formerly located at The Oaks Blenheim in   San Juan Capistrano, and is currently located at 5305 Santiago Canyon Road, Silverado (Orange County), CA 92676.

  •  The entry for the Hound Classic for the last five years has averaged an entry of 567 hounds.

  •  The show site is 49.5 miles from Los Angeles International Airport, 14.9 miles from John Wayne Airport (Santa Ana), 30.9 miles from Long Beach Airport and 36.8 from Ontario International Airport (Ontario, CA).

  •  Host Hotel arrangements are as follows: LaQuinta Inn, 2721 Hotel Terrace, Santa Ana, CA 92705, 14.1 miles (this is due to the fact that the show site is situated on a privately-owned facility in Santiago Canyon and is in a commercially-remote area).  Room rate is $79.00 per night with NO DOG DEPOSIT. 

  •  The average median temperature at the show site is 72 degrees in April. 

  •  There are currently three other specialties that would take place on Friday: The Afghan Hound Club of California, Orange Coast Rhodesian Ridgeback Club, and Southern California Whippet Association.

  •  Obedience and Rally will both be offered. Agility will not be offered.

  •  Lure Coursing will be offered within twenty to thirty (30) minutes of the show site, at a different location.

  •  LUNCH ORDER!!
    • This year we will be having a catered ringside lunch following conformation judging at the Western. However, there will not be a raffle or silent auction this year. The cost is $10 per person and will include a sandwich, chips, cookies, and assorted salads and soft drinks.   E-mail your sandwich choice to Robert Newman at TheAnimalLawyer@aol.com by April 9, 2010.  Your sandwich choices are:  Ham,   Turkey,   BLT,   Roast Beef,   Cashew Chicken,   or Veggie.  No custom orders, please!  Just list how many and what what kind of sandwich you want from the list above.  Bear in mind there will not be food vendors open on Friday, so this will be your only food choice at the show on that day.  You can pay Robert for your lunch at the show in CASH ONLY.
