Frequently Asked Questions

The Pharaoh Hound Club of America, Inc. was organized in 1970 by Mrs. Rita Laventhall-Sacks, with the help of Ruth Taft-Harper, Elaine and Dexter Linn and Kathryn Benson, who recognized the need to unite Pharaoh Hound breeders and owners across the country, to ensure the continued integrity of the breed they had come to so admire.

The monumental task of  establishing the PHCA registry and stud book fell on Mrs. Laventhall-Sacks.  Mrs. Sacks maintained the Registry and the painstaking job of creating an accurate stud book was taken over by Mrs. Sacks' daughter, Laurie Laventhall.  On January 1, 1984, the Pharaoh Hound was officially welcomed into the Hound Group by the American Kennel Club.

Today, the PHCA boasts a membership in excess of one hundred members throughout the United States, Australia, Canada and Europe.  It is made up of people with varying degrees of interest and experience in the breed .... with one thing in common ... the love, appreciation and devotion to the Pharaoh Hound.

The Pharaoh Hound Club of America, Inc. conducts one general membership meeting each year in conjunction with it's National Specialty dog show.

The PHCA hosts three specialty shows annually; a National Specialty, an Eastern Regional specialty and a Western Regional specialty.  In addition, we support several shows and lure trials each year with official sanction and trophies.

Club Colors?  Purple and Gold, of course!
